Aims of this Unit

Introduction

This Unit aims to explore how software applications such as PowerPoint can be used as a tool to develop Multimedia capability and in doing so, creatively enhance the teaching and learning in other curricular areas. It also aims to raise awareness as to how teachers can use applications such as PowerPoint to improve and enhance their own productivity, i.e. the creation and presentation of multimedia teaching and learning materials.

In this unit you will:

Application Skills:

• develop a basic understanding of PowerPoint
  • how to use the different screen views
  • how to create and save a PowerPoint presentation
  • how to manage and manipulate digital media (text, images, sound) within a presentation
  • how to animate slide transitions and digital media
• further develop an understanding of how to manage ICT files on a network

Pedagogic Development:

• consider appropriate contexts in which the application of such software packages can enhance the curriculum
• begin to develop an awareness of how to write effective lesson plans
• appropriately reference ICT Strands and Attainment Targets
• appropriately reference other appropriate 5-14 Guidelines, i.e. Environmental Studies
• develop awareness and ability to use ICT to enhance productivity
• begin to engage with current research, i.e. MIICE Project
